Luke

We've been in the air for seven hours and 45 minutes. I'm sitting by Luke this time and Jake has the window. The three of us planned to start a movie at the same time, but when it came time to start, Luke was playing his DS and wasn't going to watch it. I thought it was all the better since the movie was Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows and is PG-13. Later I noticed Luke watching Happy Feet 2. Sometimes I take his age for granted and treat him as though he's a peer with Jake. I need to take into account more often that he's three and half years younger. He looks a little different today. He's wearing jeans that fit and his hair has grown out nicely from the haircut I gave him giving him an almost preppy look. Our Luke who usually wears his pants 4 inches too short. During this trip he wore his knitted multicolored scarf that mom made for him with either his gray beanie or parka hat with the braids hanging down from his ears, his new gray coat, and socks with black crocs. He's quite a site. He had his own style and it worked well.
Looking at him now I see a few, but not too many freckles on his cheek. He has the one freckle on his nose. He has a tick. He usually goes through a tick then develops a new one. Sometimes it can be aggravating or funny but I'm not too worried because growing up as the youngest of 10 you see a lot of ticks and have your own. His new tick is opening his eyes wide and then releasing, usually when reading or eating.
Jake teased him for getting laughed at on the train from Paris to London by Cari and mom but it didn't seem to faze him. It shouldn't either because we know he will grow out of them. Luke is a very smart boy with a technical mind. He just scrolled through the British Airways entertainment screen to chose a documentary about Legos. He loves legos, and video games that allow you to design and build things. He's always drafting his own video games on paper, and designing his own board games on paper too. I need to embrace this gift of his.
